Overview
Registered in 1978 by originator F. Shaw and registrant P. Aden, *Hosta* 'Love Pat' is a small, upright cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue leaf margins and uniform blue-green foliage. The leaves are nearly orbicular, measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) both in length and width, with eight pairs of veins, giving the plant a compact, rounded appearance.
In the Garden
'Love Pat' reaches a mature height of 14 inches (35.6 cm) and a spread of 16 inches (40.6 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue coloration is most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other small hostas. The upright scape, reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm), supports pale lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many blue-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and use barriers or repellents as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
