Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Love Nest' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from *Hosta* 'Love Pat' (pod parent, pollen parent unknown). It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, cupped, blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, dull surfaces, and a cordate base, reaching 9 inches long by 10 inches wide with 15 vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Love Nest' forms a substantial mound 24 inches high and 48 inches in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its light blue-green foliage holds color well. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of shaded borders, paired with ferns or fine-textured perennials; it is not suited for container culture due to its mature dimensions.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout dry periods, applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary.
