Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Stormy Seas' is a large, slow-growing cultivar derived from a cross between *H. 'Frances Williams'* (pod parent) and (*H. 'Marilyn'* × *H. 'Tardiflora'*). It is visually distinctive for its intensely twisted, deeply wavy, and moderately corrugated blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins, both surfaces bearing a glaucous bloom.

In the Garden

'Stormy Seas' reaches a mature diameter of 52 inches (132.1 cm) and a height of 26 inches (66.0 cm), with an upright growth habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its thick-substance leaves resist sun scald. Its large size and unruly, textured foliage make it a suitable specimen or accent plant in shaded borders, woodlands, or mixed with ferns and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaf substance offers moderate slug and deer resistance, though monitoring is advised in high-pressure areas.
