Overview
Registered in 2008 by D. Van Eechaute, *Hosta* 'Breeder's Love' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Love Pat' distinguished by its large, intensely blue-green leaves with streaked golden yellow, pale yellow, and light green flat margins. The plant consistently produces this variegation pattern, with deeply cupped, intensely corrugated foliage that carries a glaucous bloom on both surfaces.
In the Garden
This large cultivar forms a mound 17.1 inches (43.4 cm) tall and 33.5 inches (85.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers and gold margins develop strongest coloration. The broad, ovate leaves with cordate bases and 13 to 14 vein pairs create substantial textural contrast when planted near finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor and corrugation. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While typical hosta-growing zones are suitable, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through standard cultural controls.
