Overview

Registered in 2015 by D. Dean, *Hosta* 'Phyllis' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross of *Hosta* 'Color Fantasy' and *Hosta* 'Love Pat', with open-pollinated *Hosta* 'Sea Drift' as the pollen parent. It is visually distinguished by its nearly round, deeply cupped and corrugated leaves with green centers and yellow, slightly rippled margins, forming a dense, upright mound of bright foliage.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Phyllis' reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 23 inches (58.4 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It is noted for sun tolerance, making it suitable for sites with more light than typical hosta-growing zones, though it also performs well in partial shade. Its heavily corrugated, folded leaves pair effectively with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or heucheras, and its medium size suits border fronts or mixed shade beds.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially in sunnier positions, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While moderately resistant, monitor for slug damage on the thick leaves and protect from deer where these pests are prevalent.
