Overview
Hosta 'Bedazzled' is a small-sized hosta cultivar registered in 1999, resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Little Wonder' (seed parent) and *Hosta* 'Love Pat' (pollen parent). This cultivar is distinctive for its compact, flattened mound habit and striking variegation: medium blue-green leaves with broad, flat golden yellow margins approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide. The leaf surface is dull on the upper side, with a glaucous bloom on the underside, and the scape shares the glaucous blue-green coloration.
In the Garden
Hosta 'Bedazzled' is well suited to the front of a border, rock garden, or container due to its small stature—reaching approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter at maturity. Its moderate growth rate and flattened mound form make it an effective groundcover in partial to full shade, where the gold margins remain brightest. The blue-green leaf center provides strong contrast against companion plants with yellow or chartreuse foliage, such as *Hosta* 'June' or *Carex* species. The dull upper leaf surface and glaucous underside contribute a subtle textural interest, while the cordate leaf base and 8 to 10 vein pairs per leaf offer structural detail. Given its compact size, this cultivar is also suitable for troughs or mixed containers, provided the soil remains consistently moist.
Care Notes
Hosta 'Bedazzled' performs best in evenly moist, well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering during dry periods. Standard hosta care applies: apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage the foliage, so monitoring and protective measures are advisable. This cultivar is hardy in temperate zones typical for small-leaved hostas, though specific zone data is not recorded.
