Overview

Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Mikawa-no-yuki' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins. The leaf blades are dull on the upper surface and bear a glaucous bloom underneath, with a tapered base and nine to ten vein pairs.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a compact mound 14 inches (35.6 cm) tall and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and is well suited to rock gardens, container plantings, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size and blue-green foliage pair effectively with fine-textured shade plants such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, avoiding waterlogged soil. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary.
