Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Valley's White Beach' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Mikawa-no-yuki' (pod parent) and *H. pycnophylla* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its lanceolate, blue-green leaves with deeply wavy, heavily rippled margins and a prominent glaucous (white powdery) bloom on the undersides.
In the Garden
'Valley's White Beach' forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching approximately 20 inches (50 cm) in height and 26 inches (65 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, where the glaucous leaf backs are most visible. The medium green, rippled foliage provides textural contrast when paired with finer-leaved perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*; the upright habit also suits the middle of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, textured leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs and deer, though monitoring is advisable in high-pressure areas.
