H. ‘Temple Bells’

Overview

Registered in 1992, 'Temple Bells' is a small hosta cultivar derived from a cross involving an unvariegated seedling of *Hosta* 'Beatrice'. Its distinctive foliage features medium green, rippled leaf margins with a slightly shiny upper and lower surface, creating a subtle textural contrast.

In the Garden

This compact hosta reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and spreads to 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of shaded borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or dwarf astilbes. Its small stature also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation in typical hosta-growing zones.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Temple Bells' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures should be considered in areas where these pests are prevalent.
