Overview
Registered in 2015, *Hosta* 'Valley's Cover Lady' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from a cross between *H.* 'Tsuma Tajima' (pod parent) and a streaked sport of *H.* 'Mikawa-no-Yuki' (pollen parent). It is visually distinctive for its ovate, blue-green leaves with wide white margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside, combined with a thick substance that contributes to its sunfast quality.
In the Garden
'Valley's Cover Lady' reaches approximately 12 inches (30 cm) in height and 14 inches (35 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, where its white margins remain stable and its blue-green center does not fade. Its small size and compact mound make it suitable for rock gardens, front-of-border placements, or container culture; it pairs well with fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor regularly and employ barriers or repellents if needed.
