Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Greenhead Grafton Blues' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a cross between *H.* 'Mikawa-no-Yuki' (pod parent) and *H. kiikutti leuconata* (pollen parent). The plant is distinguished by its lanceolate, medium blue-green leaves with flat margins, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside; the leaves are folded and possess heavy substance, contributing to a notably robust appearance.

In the Garden

'Greenhead Grafton Blues' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its blue-green foliage provides a cool accent in woodland borders or shaded beds. The plant's medium size and substantial leaves make it suitable for pairing with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many blue-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; protective measures are advisable where these pests are prevalent.
