Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek through the American Hosta Society, 'Outrageous' is a giant-sized cultivar distinguished by its heavily variegated foliage. The leaves are blue-green with wide margins that display yellow and creamy white tones, further marked by heavy dark green streaking and mottling across the blade surface.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms an upright mound reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter at maturity. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for most hostas, and requires adequate space to accommodate its substantial spread. The large, ovate leaves with cordate bases and moderate corrugation provide textural contrast when paired with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Outrageous' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
