Overview

Registered in 1987 by W. & E. Lachman, *Hosta* 'Galaxy' is a giant hybrid resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Beatrice' and *H.* 'Frances Williams'. It is distinguished by its large, heavily textured leaves that are green with creamy yellow-mottled white margins, borne on plants reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Galaxy' performs best in partial to full shade, where its substantial foliage can develop fully without scorching. At giant size, it functions as a bold specimen or background plant in woodland gardens and mixed borders, pairing well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its leaf dimensions—19 inches (48.3 cm) long and 8 inches (20.3 cm) wide—make it unsuitable for containers except in very large planters.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Galaxy' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
