Year registered2009
Section classIV-4b (Small)

Overview

A sport of *Hosta* 'X-rated' registered in 2009, 'PG-13' forms a small, fast-growing mound of medium green leaves edged with pure white margins. Its compact dimensions—6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter—distinguish it as a diminutive cultivar with a tidy, mounded habit.

In the Garden

'PG-13' performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, where its white-margined foliage brightens darker areas. At maturity, it forms a dense clump roughly the size of a dinner plate, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a border. Pair with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas for textural contrast; its fast growth rate allows it to fill in quickly in container plantings.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry spells, especially in containers, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas with substantial white leaf margins, 'PG-13' is moderately attractive to slugs and deer; monitor for damage and apply controls as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
