Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Baby Bear' is a small, mound-forming cultivar derived from a streaked sport of *Hosta* 'Little Wonder' with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its medium blue-green leaves with broad, creamy white, slightly rippled margins, and for the plant's tendency to appear to glow in low light conditions.
In the Garden
'Baby Bear' is suited to partial to full shade, forming a compact mound 7 inches (17.8 cm) tall and 26 inches (66.0 cm) wide at maturity with a moderate growth rate. Its small size and subdued leaf coloration make it an effective groundcover or edging plant in woodland gardens, and it pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant perennials. It is well-suited for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, 'Baby Bear' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
