Overview

Registered in 1994 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Francee', 'Minuteman' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its dark green leaves with wide, creamy white margins. The leaf blades measure 6 inches (15.2 cm) long by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, with 8 to 10 vein pairs, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a dull underside.

In the Garden

'Minuteman' forms a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its white margins remain most distinct, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas. The green scapes reach 18 to 30 inches (45.7 to 76.2 cm) in height and bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug and deer damage may occur in typical hosta-growing zones.
