Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek (AHS), 'Blade Runner' is a small hosta of unknown parentage. Its distinctive appearance derives from medium green, elliptic to lanceolate leaves with narrow (0.25 in / 0.6 cm), white, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface.
In the Garden
'Blade Runner' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 11 in (27.9 cm) in height and 32 in (81.3 cm) in diameter, suitable for the front of borders or rock gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with small ferns, heucheras, or fine-textured groundcovers. Its small size also makes it a candidate for troughs or containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
