Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Pure Heart' is a miniature sport of *Hosta* 'Blue Mouse Ears' distinguished by its unusual color reversal: rounded, heavily textured leaves with creamy white centers and narrow, slightly blue-green margins. The broadly ovate leaves measure 2.25 inches (5.7 cm) long by 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide, with 5 to 7 vein pairs, and exhibit a dull finish on both surfaces.
In the Garden
Reaching only 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) in height and 5 inches (12.7 cm) in diameter, this mound-forming miniature is well suited to troughs, rock gardens, and the front of shaded borders. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture. Its compact habit and slow, moderate growth rate make it an excellent candidate for container cultivation, where it can be paired with other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or miniature ferns.
Care Notes
Provide regular water during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pure Heart' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its heavy leaf substance offers some resistance to minor feeding.
