What it looks like
'Blue Mouse Ears' is a miniature with small, round, thick leaves. The AHS registry gives 2.8 × 2 in leaves, medium blue-green, dull on top with a glaucous (powdery) underside and a heart-shaped base. The Hosta of the Year booklet calls them "small round, gray-green leaves with incredible substance". Flowers are pale lavender, striped and bell-shaped, about 0.5 in long, on scapes only 6–7.5 in tall — the booklet says "in perfect proportion to the clump size".

The registry measured an old clump (12 years, Maryland), yet the booklet gives about twice the width. Neither figure is a guarantee of garden size.

How it compares
- 'Mighty Mouse' is a registered sport of 'Blue Mouse Ears' (#3754): a slightly blue-green leaf, 3.25 × 2.5 in, with a creamy white margin 0.25–0.5 in wide, which the registrant calls "very stiff". It appears with 'Blue Mouse Ears' in the 2024 AHS top-10 miniature list.
- 'Mini Skirt', a sport of 'Mighty Mouse', has a wider 0.5–0.75 in creamy white margin on intensely wavy 2 × 1.75 in leaves, registered at 7 in high and 14 in across (#3775). Pick it if a wide white edge and a wavy leaf matter more than a plain one; 'Blue Mouse Ears' has the plain, round blue-green leaf.
- 'Halcyon' has a blue leaf on a medium plant; its booklet width (47 in) is about two and a half times the booklet width of 'Blue Mouse Ears'.
Parentage and awards
The registry lists parentage as unknown; the booklet calls it a sport of 'Blue Cadet'. The two AHS sources disagree. Originated, named, introduced and registered by E. and J. Deckert.
