Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek (AHS), this miniature hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta venusta* and a sport of *Hosta sieboldii*. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its white leaf margins with a green, slightly rippled center, a reversal of the typical green-with-white-margin pattern found in many variegated hostas.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Masquerade' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of miniature hostas, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
