Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Cute as a Button' is a miniature sport of a *H. 'Little Wonder'* variegated seedling. The cultivar is visually distinctive for its creamy white leaf centers bordered by medium green margins, a color pattern that remains stable and does not exhibit the melt-out common in some white-centered hostas.
In the Garden
This miniature hosta forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter and 2 inches (5.1 cm) in height, with a slow to medium growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the white leaf centers remain bright without scorching. Suitable companions include other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* and small ferns; its diminutive size also makes it an excellent choice for troughs, fairy gardens, or containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
