Overview

Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Pineapple Upsidedown Cake', 'Pineapple Juice' is a small hosta distinguished by its blue-green leaf centers contrasted with golden yellow, heavily rippled margins. The elliptic leaves, measuring 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, possess a dull upper surface and a glaucous bloom beneath, with seven vein pairs and a tapered, wavy base.

In the Garden

'Pineapple Juice' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers remain most pronounced, though the gold margins may intensify with some morning light. This small cultivar is well-suited for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, and pairs effectively with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Pineapple Juice' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended in areas where these pests are prevalent.
