Overview
Registered in 1999 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Pineapple Poll', 'Pineapple Upsidedown Cake' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow, rippled, dark green margins and a golden yellow center. The leaves measure 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) wide, with 8 to 9 vein pairs, a dull upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 66 inches (167.6 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded foundation plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry spells, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and take protective measures if needed.
