Overview
Registered in 2003, 'Katie Q' is a small sport of *Hosta* 'Marilyn' distinguished by its blue-green leaves with medium gold margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, bear 9 to 10 vein pairs and exhibit a thin glaucous bloom on both surfaces, with moderately wavy and lightly corrugated texture.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the gold margins contrast well with darker companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*. Its small size makes it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored.
