Overview

Registered in 2011 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Anthony' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its reversed coloration: golden yellow leaf centers with medium blue-green margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide, bear 11 to 12 pairs of veins and exhibit a thin glaucous bloom on both surfaces. The margins are flat, approximately 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide, and the leaf edges are moderately wavy.

In the Garden

'Hosta' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a medium to fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green and gold variegated hostas, where the gold centers remain bright without scorching. The scapes rise 18 to 30 inches (45.7 to 76.2 cm) above the foliage. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, paired with ferns, heucheras, or other hostas of contrasting leaf shape.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the tender new foliage is attractive to both.
