Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Dorset Clown' registered in 2004, 'Clown's Collar' is a small Tardiana-type hosta distinguished by its broad, pale yellow margins contrasting with blue-green leaf centers. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, lightly twisted and wavy, and bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces.
In the Garden
'Clown's Collar' reaches approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margin color is most stable. Its small size and compact habit make it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, where it pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed where these pests are prevalent.
