Overview
Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Libby' is a small, fast-growing cultivar bred from the cross of *H. 'Beatrice'* and *H. 'Katrina Jo'*. Its visual distinction lies in dark green, lance-shaped leaves edged with pale yellow margins that range from less than 0.1 to 0.5 inches (0.0–1.3 cm) wide, with slight rippling and light twisting.
In the Garden
Reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and spreading to 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, 'Libby' forms a dense, mound-like clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or small grasses that complement its compact scale. The pale yellow margins hold their color through the season, providing consistent contrast.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Libby' is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions; deer browsing is also a potential concern.
