Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Erie Magic' registered in 2003, 'Prairie Magic' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaf centers with medium gold margins. The center of each leaf is notably darker green than that of its parent, and the foliage exhibits a thin glaucous bloom on the underside.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, are lightly wavy and corrugated with a cordate base. Scapes rise 24 to 36 inches (61.0 to 91.4 cm) above the foliage. 'Prairie Magic' performs best in partial to full shade and is suitable for border plantings or as a groundcover in typical hosta-growing zones.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug damage may occur on the foliage, and deer may browse the leaves.
