Overview
Registered in 2002 by P. & J. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Prairie Glow' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with yellow-gold margins. The ovate leaves, with cordate bases and lightly wavy edges, are dull on both surfaces and bear nine prominent vein pairs. This cultivar is notable as the mother plant of 'Midwest Magic'.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter, 'Prairie Glow' forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump suitable for the foreground of shaded borders or rock gardens. Its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other small hostas in dappled to full shade conditions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer where these pests are prevalent.
