Overview
Registered in 2009 by K. Walek through the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Mayan Moon' is a sport of *Hosta* 'August Moon'. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with wide, golden yellow, slightly rippled margins, a combination that contrasts with the solid gold foliage of its parent.
In the Garden
This medium-sized cultivar forms a mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) tall and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with broadly ovate leaves 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials. Its moderate size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
