Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Patriot' registered in 2003, 'Paul Revere' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white margins. The leaf center is dull green, while the margins are a flat, dark green, measuring approximately 0.75 inches (1.9 cm) wide, creating a reverse-variegated appearance compared to its parent.
In the Garden
'Paul Revere' forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter. Its leaves are ovate with rounded bases, lightly cupped and lightly wavy, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide with 9 to 10 vein pairs. The scapes rise 18 to 24 inches (45.7 to 61.0 cm) and exhibit white speckling. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Paul Revere' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
