Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Nightlife' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Invincible'* and *H. 'Elegans'*. It is visually distinguished by its blue-green, ovate leaves with cordate bases, dark green slightly rippled margins, and a thin glaucous bloom on the undersides, complemented by large, light purple, fragrant flowers on green scapes.

In the Garden

'Nightlife' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green foliage provides contrast against gold or chartreuse companions such as *H. 'Sum and Substance'* or ferns. Its medium size makes it appropriate for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
