Overview

Registered in 1993, 'Lakeside Little Gem' is a miniature hosta of unknown parentage. Its distinctive appearance derives from medium green leaves with slightly rippled margins, a rounded base, and a subtle sheen on the upper surface, while the underside remains dull.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a compact mound 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the variegated foliage remains stable, and pairs well with other miniature hostas or small woodland perennials. Its diminutive size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
