Overview
Registered in 1996, 'Cody' is a miniature hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Shining Tot' and *Hosta venusta*. It is visually distinctive for its very shiny, ovate leaves with dark green margins and a rounded base, combining the glossy foliage of its parentage with the compact habit of *H. venusta*.
In the Garden
'Cody' forms a low, mound-like clump reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its shiny leaf surfaces are most visible. Suitable for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, it also thrives in containers due to its miniature size. Companion plants include small ferns, *Heuchera*, or other miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the glossy foliage.
