Overview
Registered in 1991 by D. Stone and P. Ruh, 'Leprechaun' is a miniature hosta of unknown parentage. Its distinguishing features are small, heavily undulated leaves with green margins and a variegated pattern, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
This miniature cultivar reaches approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) in diameter and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height, with scapes rising to 7.5 inches (19.1 cm). It performs best in partial to light shade, as is typical for variegated hostas. Its small size makes it well-suited for troughs, rock gardens, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with other miniature perennials such as *Heuchera* or small ferns.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Leprechaun' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
