Overview
Registered in 2001, 'March for Life' is a miniature hosta of unknown breeder, produced from *Hosta* 'Lakeside Little Gem' as the pod parent with an unknown pollen parent. This cultivar is visually distinctive for its very narrow, lance-shaped leaves with dark green centers and flat margins, measuring only 0.88 inches (2.2 cm) wide and 3.25 inches (8.3 cm) long, with three vein pairs and a slightly shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
'March for Life' reaches a mature size of 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) in diameter and 4 inches (10.2 cm) in height, with an upright, fast-growing habit. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and is well-suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its miniature stature makes it an excellent container specimen, and it pairs effectively with other small shade plants such as dwarf ferns or miniature heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, though the small, narrow leaves may be less attractive to these pests than larger-leaved cultivars.
