Overview

Registered in 2003, this small hosta cultivar was hybridized by Mary Chastain as part of the Lakeside series. *Hosta* 'Lakeside a Go Go' is visually defined by its ovate, moderately flat leaves with medium green margins and pure white centers, a pattern produced from crossing *H.* 'Lakeside Knickknack' and *H.* 'Lakeside Little Gem'.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, as is typical for variegated hostas with substantial white leaf tissue. Its small size makes it well suited for troughs, containers, or the front of a shaded border, where it pairs naturally with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly to establish and maintain consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and protection may be required in areas where these pests are prevalent.
