Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Flanders Spirit' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Doctor Fu Manchu' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its upright, lance-shaped blue-green leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins, a glaucous bloom on the undersides, and deep impressed veins that give the foliage a strongly textured appearance.
In the Garden
'Flanders Spirit' forms a moderate-growing clump reaching approximately 18 inches (45 cm) in height and 24 inches (60 cm) in diameter, with upright foliage that points upward. Its leaf shape and wavy margins make it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to light shade, where the blue-green coloration and impressed veins are most pronounced. It pairs well with ferns or other shade perennials of contrasting texture; its medium size and upright habit also suit container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
