Overview
Registered in 2010, 'Cosmic Brew' is a large hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Cosmic Hippie' (pod parent) and *Hosta* 'Ma Breeder' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive visual feature is the blue-green leaf center with margins that transition from dark blue-green to pale yellow, creating a pronounced, slightly rippled border.
In the Garden
'Cosmic Brew' forms a mound-shaped clump reaching 23 inches (58.4 cm) in height and 42 inches (106.7 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the leaf color remains truest. The large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases, moderate corrugation, and light cupping make this cultivar suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders; its substantial size precludes container use.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as both pests may damage the foliage.
