Overview
Registered in 2010, 'Cosmic Breeder' is a large hosta resulting from a cross between (*H. 'My Mom' × H. 'Ma Breeder'*) and *H. 'Cosmic Hippie'*. Its most distinctive feature is the streaked dark green and medium blue-green foliage, with broadly ovate, moderately corrugated leaves that have slightly rippled margins and a cordate base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching 38 inches (96.5 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, where the leaf color remains truest. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of shaded borders, paired with ferns or woodland perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
