Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Justice' is a sport of *H. nigrescens* 'Elatior' and is distinguished by its large, upright mound of blue-green leaves with creamy yellow and white flat margins, the central leaf surfaces often misted and streaked with lighter tones. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped and corrugated leaves reach 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and 8 inches (20.3 cm) in width, with 12 to 14 vein pairs, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a thin glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 60 inches (152.4 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), 'Justice' forms a substantial, upright clump suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its tall scapes, reaching 36 to 60 inches (91.4 to 152.4 cm), produce lavender flowers in midsummer. The bold variegation and large scale make it an effective specimen or accent plant in woodland borders and mixed shade beds, where it pairs well with ferns and other broad-leaved perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Justice' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
