Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of an unnamed parent, *Hosta* 'Color Revolt' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its very dark two-tone green foliage. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, feature a medium green center with a 2-inch (5.1 cm) wide, dark green, flat margin, creating a pronounced bicolor effect. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the blade is very lightly corrugated with 11 vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Color Revolt' forms a fast-growing, mound-like clump reaching 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its strong petioles support the substantial leaves well. The creamy light green scapes rise 30 to 36 inches (76.2 to 91.4 cm) above the foliage, bearing many medium lavender flowers. This cultivar pairs effectively with other shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes, and its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Color Revolt' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
