Overview

Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Blockbuster' is a giant cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Sea Prize'* and *H. 'Maekawa'*. It is visually distinctive for its large, nearly round, deeply corrugated leaves that are dark green with unstable streaks of blue-green, medium green, greenish yellow, yellow, and creamy white, set off by white margins.

In the Garden

'Blockbuster' reaches a mature spread of 61 inches (154.9 cm) and a height of 31 inches (78.7 cm), with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-green hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials that contrast with its bold foliage. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in woodland borders.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods; fertilize in early spring as growth emerges. The thick, corrugated leaves offer good slug resistance, though standard deer deterrents may be needed in areas with heavy browsing pressure.
