Overview

Registered in 2004, *Hosta* 'Yikes! More Stripes' is a giant, fast-growing cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Breeder's Choice' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its large, nearly round, blue-green leaves with unstable streaks of yellow and creamy white, set off by slightly rippled, paler margins and a glaucous white bloom on the undersides.

In the Garden

Reaching 29 inches (73.7 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, this upright, giant hosta is best suited to partial shade, where its streaked variegation remains most stable. Its substantial, intensely corrugated leaves and tall scapes make it a strong specimen plant or a bold accent in mixed shade borders. Given its size, it is not suitable for containers and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the large, tender leaves are attractive to both.
