Overview

Registered in 2004, 'Giant Streaker' is a seedling of *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' that produces large, dark bluish-green leaves with unstable yellow streaking and heavily rippled gold margins. The cultivar is notable for its giant size, upright habit, and the tendency of its variegation to persist into autumn.

In the Garden

This hosta forms a substantial clump reaching 43 inches (109 cm) in diameter and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height, with an upright growth habit and slow rate of expansion. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its broad, corrugated leaves with 15 to 16 pairs of prominent veins can develop without scorching. The large scale makes it suitable as a specimen or accent in shaded borders and woodland gardens, where it pairs well with ferns and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The large, thick leaves are moderately resistant to slugs, though monitoring may be necessary in damp conditions.
