Registered in 2009 by K. Walek, *Hosta* 'Urajiro Izu Iwa' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a white-backed phenotype of its pod parent. It is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with dark green, heavily rippled margins, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom on the underside.

In the Garden

This hosta performs best in partial to full shade, forming a mound-like to upright clump that reaches approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height. Its fast growth rate and deeply wavy, nearly serrated leaf margins make it a textural accent among ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials. It is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a specimen in typical hosta-growing zones.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
