Overview

Registered in 2010 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Vivacious', 'Stolen Ability' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green foliage and upright growth habit that exposes purple-red petioles. It is essentially a green-leaved version of its parent, with a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides and a mound-like form reaching 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Stolen Ability' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and requires moderate moisture for optimal growth. Its mature dimensions—a broad, low mound—make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in shaded beds, where the contrasting purple-red petioles add visual interest. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its subdued blue-green tones.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry spells, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas with high pest pressure.
