Overview

Registered in 1996 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Patriot', this small-sized cultivar forms a dense, mound-shaped clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter. Its most distinctive feature is the narrow, pure white margin—approximately 0.13 inches (0.3 cm) wide—contrasting with a greenish-yellow leaf center, with 7 to 9 pairs of veins and a rounded base.

In the Garden

'Patriot's Fire' performs best in partial to light shade, where its white margins remain crisp and the greenish-yellow center develops good color. At maturity, the plant spreads to just over 2.5 feet (81.3 cm) across, making it suitable for the front of a border, rock garden, or container. Its moderate growth rate and compact habit allow pairing with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in full sun exposure, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs may damage foliage; deer are known to browse the leaves, so protective measures are advisable in areas with high pressure.
