Overview

Registered in 1998 by M. Zilis, this small-sized sport produces compact mounds of light green leaves edged in creamy white margins. The foliage is dull on the upper surface with a slight sheen beneath, and the tapered leaf blades measure 4 inches long by 1.5 inches wide with four vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Yellow Jacket' forms a dense, fast-growing mound 6.5 inches tall and 12 inches in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain crisp without scorching. Pair with small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas for textural contrast.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage in shaded garden settings.
