Overview

Registered in 1999, 'Nordic Racer' is a miniature hosta cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Crepe Suzette' and *H.* 'Blue Moon'. Its distinctive foliage consists of narrow, blue-green leaves with white margins, the leaf blades reaching 4 inches (10.2 cm) in length and 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) in width, with six to seven vein pairs and a slightly shiny upper surface.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a compact, upright mound 9 inches (22.9 cm) in height and 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green leaf centers and white margins remain most pronounced. The small dimensions and tidy habit make 'Nordic Racer' well suited for troughs, containers, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with other miniature hostas or fine-textured shade perennials such as ferns.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, this cultivar may be damaged by slugs and deer, though its small, upright leaves may offer some resistance to slug feeding.
